My two older sisters and I after baking brownies…classic in our family.
Hullo. I’m Sophie! Welcome to the land of cinnamon & honey. On the weekends you can find me sipping English Breakfast tea, and experimenting in the kitchen with my yellow KitchenAid, Sunny. <3
I’m a 26 year old baker from the San Francisco Bay Area. I started this blog back in college to experiment with baking and to try out new recipes…and it has taken me on a wonderfully rewarding journey with food! I absolutely LIVE to bake.
I grew up in the kitchen, baking away with my mom and my two older sisters. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood center around fiddling about in the kitchen with my family.
I knew I wanted to go to culinary school and pursue that baking path early on. However, my fam wanted me to get an undergraduate degree as a backup plan before diving in to the industry. So, I graduated Spring 2014 with an undergraduate degree from Humboldt State University in Northern California. I majored in International Studies (with a focus in Globalization) and double minors of Spanish and Anthropology. All things I’m still interested in.
I also love to travel and explore the world. I’ve lived for a summer in Costa Rica, travelled around Europe various times and situations, I studied abroad for a semester my Junior year of college in San Sebastián Spain (and then spent the summer exploring the rest of Europe), I did the Birthright trip and visited Israel and Jordan, and most recently spent three weeks travelling in SE Asia. It has always been a dream of mine to have a career that could combine my love of traveling, food and baking… Eventually I would like to have a business of my own, whether it be a bakery outside of the box or something along those lines.
The Food-Oriented Deets:
Fave quotation…
“Find something you’re passionate about, and keep tremendously interested in it.” -Julia Child
I’m a vegetarian, though I will occasionally eat fish.
I HATE mushrooms. LOVE pretty much any other vegetable.
Favorite food: Pumpkin pie.
Passions: Food…and puppies.
I finished the Baking & Pastry certificate at the Santa Rosa Junior College in Sonoma County, and then went straight into the industry as a baker. I worked at MH Bread & Butter in San Anselmo as a croissant/pastry baker for over a year. I gained so much knowledge and experience in that year, when I look back at it I am truly proud of myself.
However, I decided to take a break from the industry and explore other careers while I try to narrow down what I want to do with my life. I still bake at home pretty frequently, and I’m always day-dreaming about baking and food.
Who knows where life will take me.
I will most definitely be taking this blog along for the rest of my journeys! 🙂
